7a.m.

Adam goes back to his regular work schedule today, so he'll be working all weekend...pray he's safe because I don't think I can handle worrying about both loves of my life at once.  Also pray that he has a chance to see Aubrey sometime today...his hours and the NICU hours don't exactly mesh well.

Aubrey had a pretty good night...she is still having some breathing episodes. The nurse this morning said, "It's not because she's sick, it's just because she's little."  She's still doing well on feedings and gained 20 grams yesterday. Ok, so that's only like gaining 20 paperclips worth of weight, but for someone her size that's good!

A friend of mine sent me this poem last week, so I thought I'd share it:

Dear God, as you look down upon us,
We know that you might have to squint.
We're located here in the NICU,
It's the nursery that we rent.

There are many alarms and sirens,
Connected to our & Condos' & Flats'.
The nurses tape our booties on,
And dress us in funny hats.

We have a lot in common,
All of us were in a hurry.
For many different reasons,
Our storks came a little early.

Some of us don't know why,
We busted out from our bubbles.
We entered into this world,
Never meaning to cause any troubles.

Mommy and Daddy are worried sick,
About the odds that we must beat.
Please God, help them to realize,
That seeing us grow is a treat.

Breath by breath, we'll learn to breathe,
Ounce by ounce we'll tip the scale.
We're like the boat in the ocean,
That knows not to sink-just sail.

For we are living miracles,
Mommy and Daddy must simply believe.
That you have angels watching over us,
From the time we arrive till the time we leave.

Aubrey seems to be having fewer breathing episodes, and the doctor says he's really pleased with how she's doing. They have lowered the settings on her CPAP machine, and the doctor says his goal is to get her off of the machine completely by Monday...if possible.  We all know things can change 5 times before Monday, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I got to hold my little sweetie for about 20 minutes this afternoon while she was all wrapped up like a potato in tin foil and we were both under a heat lamp.  I have never enjoyed sweating so much.  She's trying her best to get her eyes open, and I saw little slits of eyeballs a couple of times...it won't be long before she gets them popped open.  Adam was able to swing by the hospital in time to see her for a few minutes after he got off duty.  :)

  1. I don't know you personally, but your friend Amanda P. is my sister-in-law, and she posted on Facebook when Aubrey was born. I've been following your story ever since, and have been lifting the three of you up in prayer every time I think about you (which is often). Thanks so much for taking the time to update this blog so we can rejoice with you and know specifically how to pray. Aubrey is an adorable little miracle!
